Teaching English in Central African RepublicBack to Tefl World

The Central African Republic is a landlocked country in Central Africa which has borders with Sudan, South Sudan, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republic of the Congo, and Cameroon.   The country has a population of around 4.7 million who speak French and Sango. Despite free education for children from the ages of 4 to 16 it is estimated that over half the adult population is illiterate.  As you might expect TEFL positions are rarely advertised outside of the country, but there are numerous NGOs in the country as well as two universities which might be worth contacting and asking about TEFL teaching opportunities.  Check with your government’s foreign office to see what they recommend regarding living and working in the Central African Republic.  Also remember to have the full list of vaccinations which are needed for the country – the rabies vaccination sometimes needs a course of injections which require up to a month to complete before you move there.
