Teaching English in CameroonBack to Tefl World

Cameroon is an English- and French-speaking country in Central Africa on the Gulf of Guinea.  It is sometimes referred to as “Africa in miniature” because of its geological and cultural diversity.  Cameroon is encouraging tourism in an effort to bolster its emerging economy.  It has one of the highest school attendance rates in Africa, but education is hampered by a number of factors including a shortage of teachers, particularly in the north. TEFL positions are rarely advertised outside of Cameroon, but if you are keen to teach in the country, then you might try sending one of its educational institutions or voluntary organisations a prospective CV and covering letter asking about career opportunities.  Remember to have the full list of vaccinations which are needed for Cameroon – the rabies vaccination sometimes needs a course of injections which require up to a month to complete before you depart for the country.
