Teaching English in BeninBack to Tefl World

Benin is a French-speaking country in West Africa which has borders with Nigeria, Niger, Burkina Faso, Togo, and a narrow coastline on the Gulf of Guinea.  The country was the birthplace of vodun, more commonly known as Voodoo, which was spread from here around the world due to the then dominant tribes’ slave trade.  Education levels have improved in the country since the government abolished school fees, but it’s rare to see TEFL positions advertised for the country.  If you are keen to teach in Benin, then you might try sending one of its tertiary institutions or voluntary organisations a prospective CV and covering letter asking about career opportunities.  Remember to have the full list of vaccinations which are needed for Benin – the rabies vaccination sometimes needs a course of injections which require up to a month to complete before you depart for the country.
