Teaching English in TongaBack to Tefl World

Tonga is an island nation in Polynesia, in the southern Pacific Ocean, comprising 169 islands, 36 of which are inhabited.   The rainforest-covered islands are lined by white beaches and surrounded by coral reefs submerged in turquoise waters.  Tonga is trying to develop its tourism industry, but a huge amount of the existing economy relies on remittances from the half of the Tongan population which live abroad.  Education is free and compulsory for children from the age of six to fourteen with potential for further education at the islands' colleges which have training in the fields of agriculture, medicine, and teaching, but most students head overseas.  If you are keen to find a TEFL position on these English- and Tongan-speaking islands, then you could try contacting one of its mission schools or public educational institutions enquiring about job opportunities.  You should check which vaccinations you might need if you are going to move to the islands.
