If you put the TV on when you arrive in Iceland, you’ll notice that more often than not the dramas are in English… without subtitles.  This will give you an idea why there isn’t a great demand for TEFL teachers in this friendly and fascinating country.  The cost of living is legendary, but in reality, things are probably no more expensive than any other European capital. Add to this the fact that budget airlines now serve Iceland and you can realistically consider living here on a TEFL teacher’s salary.  A TEFL job here would be a wonderful opportunity to explore this increasingly popular destination.  Random fact:  Iceland is on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge so the island is actually growing, at about the same rate as your finger nail.
