Teaching English in CanadaBack to Tefl World

The Canadian accent is very popular with students of English and so many students travel to Canada, particularly the west coast, for intensive language courses.  TEFL positions in Canada are rarely advertised overseas as they have plenty of their own home-grown teachers, but they do occasionally appear.  It’s also likely that a student who travels to Canada to study English is going to have a preference for a teacher with a North American accent.  A TEFL position in Canada would especially appeal to those teachers who love the outdoors.

Who qualifies as a 'proper teacher?' Thursday 09 Nov 2017

On the morning of the 25th anniversary of completing my introduction to TEFL course, I got one of those new email things from someone who’d been on the course with me and with whom I’d kept in occasional touch.

Congratulations!  You’ve been teaching for a quarter of a century!

A nice enough message but in context rather perplexing and I wrote back ‘You too!?!’ only to be corrected: ‘No, I’ve taught one year twenty five times.
