Antigua and Barbuda are the two main inhabited islands in this group which lie on the boundary of where the Caribbean and Atlantic Ocean meet. The islands were named by Christopher Columbus in 1493, but have also gained the name “Land of 365 beaches” which draw thousands of tourists who contribute more than 50% of the country’s GDP. The English-speaking islands have a population of around 82,000 which helps to explain why it’s rare to see TEFL positions advertised for Antigua and Barbuda. However, the islands do have a number of tertiary educational institutions, particularly related to medicine, so it might be worth sending a prospective CV and covering letter to one of these asking about possible job opportunities. Despite the islands’ renowned medical facilities you should check which vaccinations you might need if you are going to live there.
