Use the Past Perfect or Past Perfect Continuous to complete the sentences. Some answers might have both possible forms.
Example He didn't remember her name until she [LEFT] the party.
He didn't remember her name until she had left the party.
1 By the time I got to the meeting everyone [GO] .
2 He said he was late because his car [BREAK DOWN] .
3 Although my computer [WORK] fine yesterday, today it’s really slow.
4 He [walk] for a long time before realising it was the wrong direction.
5 The waiter said the restaurant [BUSY] earlier although it was quieter now.
6 The cat [OUT] all night and was now tired and hungry.
7 He [SIT] for a long time, and felt very stiff when he stood up.
8 She [SAVE] enough money to buy her own flat.
