MALAWI – THE WARM HEART OF AFRICA WELCOMES YOU

H.E.L.P. Malawi is an NGO situated in the southern region, at the end of Lake Malawi, and next to Liwonde National Park. We have just celebrated our 10th anniversary. In that time, we have built a full primary school at Nanthomba village, and a neighbouring health centre. H.E.L.P.’s mission is to develop the pathway for children living in rural regions of Africa to become integral members and leaders in society through quality education. H.E.L.P. is committed to cultivating the academic potential of each child through a comprehensive range of opportunities in primary school to prepare students for the next level of education, and to support those efforts through secondary school scholarships.

TEFL volunteers can join in with the school day by acting as classroom assistants to the Malawian teachers, and take young learners whom are struggling with English for small group sessions. In addition, we run an after-school English Activity Class three times a week, where we use pure TEFL methods to give quality language learning opportunities to over 200 students.

We need self-motivated, enthusiastic and creative teachers, who can do a lot with very low resources, to help us deliver this.

Experiencing life in the rural villages is a very special thing, and you will be living on-site at the school in a purpose built house, with solar power and running water. We do not charge anything for you to volunteer with us. We provide extensive support before you arrive, visa costs reimbursed if you stay for three months, airport pick up/drop off, first and last nights’ accommodation and meals covered and transfers to the school. You pay for your flights, and cover all your own food and additional travel costs.

Malawi is a truly special country, known as The Warm Heart of Africa. It is full of welcoming, friendly people and is blessed with an array of natural wonders, including Lake Malawi, one of the great Rift Valley lakes. There is a lot to enjoy.

H.E.L.P. believes it is every child’s birthright to provide Hope for a better future through access to quality Education and to receive unconditional Love and Protection from disease and illness. To one day see a world in which children from the most impoverished regions have access to the quality education they need to lift their families, their countries, and themselves out of poverty.
